A group of seals is often referred to as a ‘rookery’.
A word that, for me, evokes the wonderful chatter of rooks returning to their roost in the evening to discuss the days adventures …
Much like the deafening conversations that can be heard with a herd, pod, bob .. or rookery or seals… as they compare fish stories or, in this case, tell tales of shedding their skins and waking the sandy earth….
Of flirting dangerously with human men and fortuitous escapes…(for the most part).. as their skins were so nearly discovered hidden in the rocks.
Narrowly avoiding being trapped to a life on land forever …
The Selkie is often a symbol of feminine power.
